Within the scope of audit processes, a conceptual framework is presented for evaluating system effectiveness, identifying weaknesses, and addressing improvement opportunities. The training content has been structured considering the CCPS PSM audit approach and industry best practices.
Day 1 – PSM Audit Approach and System Understanding
• Overview of the PSM system: Risk-Based Process Safety (RBPS) approach
• Purpose and scope of auditing
• Types of audits: Internal audits, external audits, compliance audits, and performance audits
• Auditor roles and competencies: Technical knowledge, questioning skills, and impartiality
• Audit planning process: Defining scope, forming the audit team, and scheduling
• Audit methodology: Document review, field observations, and interviews
• Auditing PSM elements: PHA, MOC, SOP, Training, and Incident Investigation

Day 2 – Application, Evaluation, and Improvement
• Classification of findings: Nonconformities, observations, and improvement opportunities
• Root cause perspective: Identifying systemic deficiencies rather than superficial findings
• Audit reporting: Writing clear, understandable, and action-oriented reports
• Action tracking approach: Closing findings and ensuring sustainable improvement
• Management communication: Effective presentation of audit results
